The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA)
PDSA Worksheet is a useful tool for documenting a test of change. The PDSA cycle is shorthand for testing a change by developing a plan to test the change (Plan), carrying out the test (Do), observing and learning from the consequences (Study), and determining what modifications should be made to the test (Act)

Adverse Childhood Experiences
ACEs are traumatic events that occur before a child reaches the age of 18. ACEs include all types of abuse and neglect, such as parental substance use, incarceration, and domestic violence. ACEs can also include situation that may cause trauma for a child, such as having a parent with a mental illness or being part of a family going through a divorce. A landmark study in the 1990s found a significant relationship between the number of ACEs a person experienced and a variety of negative outcomes in adulthood, including poor physical and mental health, substance use, and risky behaviors. The more ACEs experienced, the greater the risk for these outcomes. Children in the child welfare system have suffered at least one ACE. Recent studies have shown that compared with the general population, these children are far more likely to have experienced at least four ACEs https://www.acesaware.org/

Mental Health
Children’s mental health is as important as their physical health. It’s not always obvious when a child is struggling emotionally, but recognizing the symptoms and seeking early and effective mental health services are important for long- term health.
At CHOC, we believe pediatric mental health treatment should be fully integrated with physical health treatment. Our psychiatry and psychology specialists work closely together to attend to our patients’ emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs through inpatient and intensive outpatient therapy programs.
