Well Child Check-Ups

CHOC Health Alliance has services to help your child grow up healthy and happy. These services include well child checkups for your child from birth through age 19.

Well child checkups are a covered benefit for CHOC Health Alliance members.

Your child will grow and change quickly. That is why it is important for your child to visit their primary care provider (PCP) even when he or she is not sick. These visits are called well child checkups. During a well child checkup, your child’s PCP:

  • Does a complete physical exam
  • Checks your child’s growing and nutrition
  • Checks your child’s vision, hearing, and teeth
  • Gives shots (immunizations) as needed
  • Orders lab work (e.g., blood lead test) as needed
  • Gives you and your child education and guidance about your child’s health and development

Well child checkups let you and the PCP know that your child is developing properly.

Your child should get a well child checkup at each of the following ages:

  • Newborn
  • By one month
  • 2 – 3 months
  • 4 – 5 months
  • 6 – 8 months
  • 9 – 11 months
  • 12 – 14 months

  • 18 – 23 months
  • 2 years

  • 4 years
  • 5 years
  • 6 years
  • 7 years
  • 8 years

Remember well child checkups are important to the health and well-being of your child. It is important that your child sees the PCP for regular well child checkups.
